About Me

Hi there, I’m Mahra, a Senior Software Engineer at Microsoft with a background in astrophysics. Basically, I’m a physics nerd who has found her way into the world of tech. I used to analyze emissions from galaxies containing active supermassive black holes, but now I work on various cloud-based solutions as part of one of the many Microsoft ISE teams. These range from cloud and edge-based applications for manufacturing use cases to LLM-based code generation solutions.

2013-2017

BSc ETH Zurich

Interdisciplinary Science: Physics and Physical Chemistry.

Bachelor’s studies with focused research on black hole astrophysics, specifically the effects active galactic nuclei have on their host galaxies. My bachelor’s thesis was on the topic of submillimeter emission of AGN host galaxies.

2017-2019

MSc ETH Zurich

Interdisciplinary Science: Physics and Physical Chemistry.

Master Studies while focusing on research projects in the field of black hole astrophysics. My masterthesis focused on investigating if photometric data of galaxies had hidden insights from which an machine learning algorithm could infer cross wavelength information using convolutional neural networks.

2019-2020

UBS Card Center

Software Engineer

Part of the Application Development team at UBS Card Center. Oversaw and developed multiple front-end applications used by internal and external customers, and implemented back-end microservices.

2020-present

Microsoft

Senior Software Engineer

Part of an ISE crew working with strategic Microsoft customers on cloud-based solutions. Projects range from IoT edge-based applications for manufacturing to multitenant SaaS and ML-based solutions.
